Welcome to Maya Children’s Right Center (MCRC), a passionate and dedicated team committed to championing the rights and welfare of children in Ethiopia. At MCRC, we believe in the transformative power of human rights advocacy and are driven by our unwavering commitment to make a positive impact in the lives of the most vulnerable population in the world – children.
We are on a mission to protect and uphold the rights, welfare, and interests of children, ensuring their access to comprehensive protection on both a global and regional level. In Ethiopia, the recognition of children's rights and their implementation is still in its early stages, despite the existence of legal frameworks that expressly recognize children's rights.
At MCRC, we advocate for children and gender rights issues, raise awareness for the protection of children's and women’s rights, conduct in-depth research to identify gaps in relation to women and children's rights, and engage in capacity building with relevant stakeholders. Our efforts extend to protecting the rights of juvenile offenders, children being held with their arrested mothers, and children in internally displaced persons (IDP) centers. We also aim to address the scarcity of juvenile centers throughout the country, advocating for their development and aid.
MCRC was founded by Lidya Girma and Rihana Jemal, both law graduates from Addis Ababa University. Lidya has extensive experience in socio-legal issues and currently supports the Ethiopian Human Rights Commission as an Associate Human Rights Officer. Rihana is a dedicated advocate of international humanitarian law and Human Rights, actively working to empower Ethiopian women and promote girls' education. At MCRC, we are fueled by the belief that every child deserves a safe, nurturing, and equitable environment. We invite you to join us in this noble cause, be a part of our journey, and contribute to making a better future for the children of Ethiopia. Thank you for taking the time to learn about Maya Children’s Right Center (MCRC). We look forward to your support and cooperation in championing children's rights in Ethiopia. Sincerely,
